Pinecone Bird Feeder

Supplies:

• Pine cone
• Paper plate
• Butter knife
• Smooth peanut butter
• Birdseed
• Ribbon or yarn
• Scissors

Step 1:  Cut a long length of yarn or ribbon to hang the bird feeder.

Step 2: Tie the ribbon in a knot around the pine cone near the top (about 3 sections down).

Step 3: Tie a knot in the end of the ribbon.

Step 4: Use the knife to get a large clump of peanut butter on the paper plate.

Step 5: Use the knife to spread peanut butter inside the pine cone and around the edges.

Step 6: Sprinkle the birdseed over the pine cone.

Step 7: Roll the pine cone in the birdseed that is on the plate.

Hang the bird feeder on the tree & enjoy watching the birds eat their treat!

Soda Bottle Terrarium

Supplies:-2-liter soda bottle
-Soil
-Small plant or seeds
-Sharpie
-Rocks, pebbles or marbles
-Sharp scissors
-Water

Directions:1)Turn a coffee mug upside down and rest your sharpie pen on top.  This will help you draw a straight line around the 2-liter bottle.  As you place your bottle next to the sharpie, spin the bottle around slowly to draw the line.



2) Take some sharp scissors and cut along the line.

3) Later you will be putting the top half  of the bottle back onto the bottom half of the bottle, so to make the top part fit better we cut a little over 1-inch slit down the side of the bottom bottle.

*First, fill the bottom of the bottle with some small rocks or pebbles.

*Second, add some soil.  How much soil you put in depends on if you are planting a plant or seeds.  If you are planting seeds you will want to fill the soil so that there is about an inch of space left to the top.

*Next, add your plant, and add some more soil to fill in the spaces.

 

*After that, just place the top half of the soda bottle back on.

*Finally, make sure your plant is watered daily!

-This can be used as a science lesson in the classroom by tracking growth, giving the students responsibilities to maintain their plants, and caring for others when absent by taking care of their plant as well!
